Greets all,
I have recently started on the long trip of trying to install a webcam on my linux box, mostly for shiggles. Im sure everyone can appreciate how aggravating this is, and the help Im receiving is wonderful. Im trying to use a se401 based webcam and the video sites that ive been hitting are clear as mud on what support is needed. I eventually plan to write a pet with all this shite cleared up, so if anyone has any ideas or tribal knowledge that they would like to kick in, pls Icq me or email. Thanx for your time and help.

About finding the USB device, and have it recognised as a video-input I have no knowledge of, but you might want to check this thread for support in the kernel:

The bug mentioned in it, has been solved in 2.4.20.
Apparently the /drivers/usb/ultracam.c should have support for the 401 camera.

Thats odd. rh7.3 running 2.4.18 detected my 401. I tried to use motion for my app but the cli for sucks balls. So, now im trying video4linuxgrab; i think. It came as an rpm but they didnt include all of the extra shit that you need to make the damn thing work. Seems to me if you want to make a package for people you would want to include everything. (sorry for rant)
