hi mike,
i'll assume this is a USB gamepad - open a terminal, become root su - and do a modprobe joydev - then re-run the jstest /dev/js0
paul
My Gravis gamepad is detected at bootup, but when I try and run jstest it always gives me this error message....jstest: No such device. I have my joystick devices in /dev/input/js0, js1, etc. and I have symbolic links in /dev. Every google search I do turns up dead ends, can anyone offer any advice?

Sorry I didn't specify, but it's not usb...it connects to the gameport on my ES1370 soundcars. The soundcard works fine, and at bootup it says the gameport is on.

Although it isn't usb, you suggestion worked! It turns out that you must have that module loaded whether or not it is a usb gamepad. I have one more question...is there any way to map keyboard keys to the gamepad? For example, if I push button 1, I would like it to really be using the cntrl button of the keyboard.
Thanks a lot
hello,
they changed that around 2.4.9 - my sb live card needed to have the joydev loaded to make it work, i don't have a ES1370 though i could not verify it. anywho - for me the indivual games need to have each button mapped from defaults.
I was hoping there was some kind of program simular to the windows version of the gravis software. It lets you map the keys to the keyboard any way you want. I'm just trying to get it to work with a nintendo emulator, FCE Ultra. Playing nes games with the keyboard just isn't the same.
