This is still the older (pre v6) Quicktime codes tho. You can run the newer stuff (v6 and up) via Wine with an install of Windows Quicktime, but to date there are no newer Linux (open source or otherwise) Quicktime codecs.
Or, maybe, yank the quicktime codec from the live cd?
Mepis is great, BTW.

They should implement some sort of wrapper that will allow us to use the windows version of the codecs, kinda like what they are doing with the wireless network cards. More about ranting about movie formats, has anyone tried the Ogg Theora codec yet? For those people that don't know, that is the open source video format that is meant to be pretty neat. Mpeg-4 is a great codec too.

What I don't understand is that they don't even have to make the codec open source to release it to Linux. I am even thinking that since OSX is unix-based it probably wouldn't be all the difficult to port it anyway. But Apple is probably getting pressure from Remond to not play nice with the Penguin. I am willing to venture far enough to even say that they [QT programmers] probably to some degree sabotage the codec slightly enough so that it can not be reverse engineered easily by Linux hackers.
You Know, that wouldn't surprise me. If only everyone would have the linux spirit. Don't worry everyone, if you don't adjust to emerging trends (linux) then you'll get left behind (microsoft). Apple's market share is shitty, and we'll always have that on them.

I've heard the the Linux marketshare has surpassed that of Apple. Heh, no wonder they aren't in any hurry to support the Penguin.
