I've compiled xine, mplayer, ogle & avifile into RPM's. Does that count?

yeah most vid players have rpms built for them. Mplayer's rpms as well as ogle and xine all have great rpms built for RedHat and I would presume SuSE and Mandrake as well.

MPlayer 0.90-rc1 which is the only mediaplayer today on any OS that supports all modern codecs, and guess what, they have RPMs up.

I know they have every codec you could need, but for the life of me I can't make the realplayer ones work.
