Thread: Resolving with WINS?

    Resolving with WINS?

I'm running a linux box on a primarily windows network, on the windows machines we can resolve ip's using the computer name (like COMP01). On the linux server I can't seem to resolve it this way. The dns is the same, but I think WINS may be doing it, any ideas?

    thanks

    Re:Resolving with WINS?

There is a setting in SAMBA not to be master browser but to participate as client. That setting is what telling Linux box that it's in primary Windows environment and that it should use WINS server to resolve names.

You can't use that with resolve.conf. Nameserver config file will only work with DNS servers.
