Dude, I just installed it to my second HDD! Now I'm rockin'! This is indeed a sweet distro. Thanks bullgooselooney for the PET and for the cd! This is uber-cool!

Now I need to apt-get update and see if there are any packages that I need updating!

    Cheers

BTW...has anyone looked at the sources.list file that is included with knoppix? Holy Cow! It's huge!

Glad to see you're liking it! I haven't looked at the sources.list file, but I did notice that when i did apt-get update it went to a whole shitload of servers and took a while.
[/quote]You guys want to be careful with that sources.list; there's some pretty cutting-edge stuff there. I borked my first install by doing an apt-get dist-upgrade; besides, those are all European sites; I know Stryder's in Turkey, but anyone in the U.S. should use apt-spy to find their sources.

    Re:Knoppix

Just got my Knoppix CD - wow is it fast!!!! Only problem I have had (and I litterally have only had 15 minutes to spend with it, is my sound is not working. Seemed to have picked up the sound card though.

    Re:Knoppix

I'm looking at updating my PET; if you go to the Knoppix forum site (the English page, unless you sprach Deutch) there's quite a few posts about rebuilding the Knoppix ISO image to add or eliminate apps. The thing is, although Knoppix is a really nice toy, it's pretty top-heavy; wouldn't a nice, really stripped down Knoppix be GREAT- it's fast now, but suppose it was stripped down to run less of the apps that you don't need? I think I'm gonna give it a shot. ;D

Installed it and it is the first Debian system that has actually run for me (cannot get Woody to run my video - i810). Only two problems now: 1) No sound - picks up my sound card correctly but no sound from it, and 2) Even though I got it to switch to English whenever I go to some sites (such as debians home site for example) that particular site comes up in German.

    Re:Knoppix

I just installed Knoppix to my hard drive and now need to update the kernel. What is the best way to update it? It doesn't have to be 2.4.20 but I need to take out the SMP option it includes on the default kernel. It won't work with my LT Winmodem! : And I need to add/remove other stuff also.

    Thnx.

    Re:Knoppix

Knoppix being a debian based distro I'd say get the stock kernel from kernel.org, apt-get install kernel-package, then configure the kernel as usual and run [/i]make-kpkg --revision custom.1 kernel-image[/i] in the source dir. Then you have a .deb file that contains your compiled kernel and the modules. Install it with dpkg -i kernel-image-<version>.deb.

    Re:Knoppix

Ok I had ran Knoppix on one of our work computers and it seem to pickup the NIC card. Is it possible to configure it to access the internet? How would I configure it?

I don't need to access the job's LAN, but just the internet part.

    Thnx.

I have wasted a cd on Knoppix. It stops on starting X > It's the only "graphical" distro I have tried that couldn't configure X on my comp, so I can't say I'm impressed. And there were no errors in the X log.

Oh well, maybe I would have liked it if it had worked, but I doubt I will try it again.

Are you sure it wasn't a dud burn, or a bad image?
