    Re:Kernel 2.4.20 is out

    Supposedly they fixed the emu10k1 problems that they were having. So, if your using a sb live, this should be "music to your ears".

    Cheers

    Re:Kernel 2.4.20 is out

    Is it compiled with GCC 3.2? I've been having a problem trying to compile my Lucent winmodem with LRs-Linux.

    The winmodem is the latest and suppose to be compatible with gcc 3 but when I untar it, i get a message saying that the kernel is compiled with gcc 2 but it suppose to be compiled with gcc3.

    Just a thought.

    Neither had I, until I read the first part of the change log. Unfortunately, I'm working a 12 hour night shift, so I didn't read the whole log (didn't want to fall asleep).

    lol.. It isn't compiled! It's source code! AKA "Compile it your damn self lazy bastard!" (Er, I hope that doesn't sound too offensive, y'all know it's in good fun right?)

    I compiled it earlier today (the debian way) on Debian Woody. Runs great.

    using 2.4.18 because:

    IDE is shit in 2.4.19, Marcelo make his lifes biggest mistake with the IDE merge in 2.4.19-pre.
    LAG bug is still present in 2.4.20...

    I say unless there's some driver issue that's only avail. or resolved in +2.4.19 then use 2.4.18 it's the best 2.4 kernel out there.

    I repeat... it's pure shit...

    Didn't they back-port the scheduler from 2.5 to this release as well? From the changelog, it looks like they back-ported some of its features. The scheduler in 2.5 is supposed to be awesome, and will really help in all systems, especially SMP. It will finally allow you to compile your kernel, do an apt-get dist-upgrade, and something else all at the same time without making your computer run like molasses.

    Well I didn't mean it like that, but thats how it came out...

    And yes, I do compile all my kernels manually....stupid bastard!
