Are there any good file sharing programs out there?

I've tried gtk-gnutella, knapster, edonkey-2000, direct connect, as well as command line versions of all of them. I can usually find the files I'm interested in, but it takes forever for the transfer to start, and I rarely finish a transfer before I'm disconnected from the host. I remember back in the old days, it was much eaiser. I am about to give up on file sharing until something better comes along.

Just a word of warning, at least in my country the APG (Our equal to BSA + RIAA) are monitoring the donkey, and probably other filesharing networks also..

So if you can't do the time, don't do the crime !

I would also recommend giFT. I am actually compiling it for my fresh system as I type this ;D

yeah giFT is about the lightest one you will find--its just a matter of actually getting files after that and good speeds (a major task for me and my less common wants).

OK, I've installed giFT, but I can't get any of the clients to work. I've tried giFTcurs, but when I run autogen.sh it gives me errors. What about giFT-shell? It says it is included, but I can't find it anywhere.

well what errors do you get building giFTcurs?
did you remember to do the giFT-setup part and start giFT afterwards?

Well, I got the released version of giFTcurs installed, I just wanted to install the cvs version, because the website said the cvs version would always be compatable with the latest cvs gift deamon. Now that it's working, I can get a decent amount of search results, but the downloads won't start. Any tips are appreciated.

[/quote]You probally need to install gettext to run autogen.sh for giFTcurs cvs.
