Thread: Apache again

    Apache again

Okay, I have the latest and greatest Apache (RH8.0) and have untarred my webpages back to

    /var/www/html/btshadows/

Still when I attempt to load my webpage I get the standard apache config index.html file that says my system has apache installed and the documentroot is messed up.

Several looks at /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf shows that my document root is correct as above.

Perhaps the problem is its the wrong httpd.conf?

    Any thoughts?

    Ras

Your document root seems to be modified?? Did you restart Apache using "apachectl restart" ??

    Re:Apache again

Well, I was just re-reading your post and have a second thought.

There are three possible areas that control where Apache fetch the documents to be displayed.

    a) via document root

    b) with Directory control area - so that each user will have their own web pages that they can use. For example, you can be at http://www.yoursite.com/~yourusername .

    c) Via VirtualHost option. If you have virtual host options configured, then that document root setting preceed the main document root setting.

So you need to figure out HOW your Apache was set up. Read the whole httpd.conf file and see what places are uncommented and what are commented.

There are normally several index.html documents in the serveroot by default. You may want to make sure all copies are either removed or renamed.

    Re:Apache again

    look for

    DirectoryIndex index.html

this specifies the first file to load/look for in the home directory, DocumentRoot

change it to whatever your home page is ie

    home.htm, index.htm, myhomepage.html, whatever.
