hey buddy!
do ya have to use apt-get?
hello,
i added the source
deb ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/linux/deve...own.org/debian woody non-free
and when i try to get java by apt-get install j2re1.3 i get
Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
j2re1.3: Depends: j2se-common (> 1) but it is not installable
E: Sorry, broken packages
root@libranet:/home/sd#
the package j2se-common is nowhere to be found so i tried using synaptic and it crapped out complaining that the msstcorefonts couldnt be gotten( guess the source was down)
heres the code:

I had to manually install Java using Debian 3.0...I wonder why it won't apt-get java?

because you have to have the correct line in your sources.list maybe?
You can install java 1.1.8 with debian using the main debian archive, they just haven't upgraded to java 2 yet, although they are working on it.
