is kate like vim? they do have vim for win32. and there are different modes too so if you are not a big VI person then you will be able to use differnet kestrokes.
I'm looking for a decent text editor that can be used in a Win environment. I would like to have something similar to kate. Document highlighting, saving as a Unix text file, having multiple documents open at the same time and it must be free or sharware or something. Any suggestions?

Get the OS within an OS within an OS .... EMACS!!!
you will only sacrifice all your spare time to learn this foreign entitiy, and your friends will all leave you -- but you will control the planet with ONE app!
I can never get used to vim. I do not like using clumsy keystrokes and having to switch back and forth between the edit screen and command line. Any other suggestion?
PS: I do not want to start a pro/con vim debate here. It might be a great editor, but I know it's not for me.

Thank you. Exactly what I was looking for (as far as features goes).
UltraEdit is what my NT using friend swears by.

I share your feeling. I respect vi(m) and I have nothing against it. I have spent much time trying to learn to use it. But darn it, I just can't get the mode-thing! And Emacs scares my pee-pee.
Thank God for Kate!
