well, thats about right. remember you need alot of cache space when compiling apps.
Okay, i'm currently waiting for GCC to finish compiling as I install LFS 4.0 so I'm killing time and found "Beyond Linux From Scratch" ( http://beyond.linuxfromscratch.org ) so i started browsing and found a section on OpenOffice. Now I have wanted to try OpenOffice for a while so I took a look at it: http://beyond.linuxfromscratch.org/v...penoffice.html
Now here's what puzzles me, why is it so huge?
Package size: 130 MB
Estimated Disk space required: 2.1 GB
Estimated Build time: 14 Hrs (850 MHz)
Estimated Install size: 203 MB
Yeah, check out that build time on an 850. :-\ 2.1 GB required but it only takes up 203 megs when it's done? Is this regular for a package this large or is OpenOffice an exeption?

yep...remember exactly how much source you're compiling here. And it did take a good 15 hours on my 800. Great office suite though.

I like it but I have been having one problem (same problem on two different
distros). In Win2000 everything works fine, but in both Mandrake (8.2 and 9.0) and in SuSE 8.0 I am unable to set up a form for my database (db). Everything is ok in the tables view but when I switch to form, the one area where I have a memo field will only take 30 characters max. When I checked the properties it was set at "0" so that should not have been a problem. Anyone else have this problem?

I would suggest starting a new thread, you'll probably get more responses that way.
