    Impressions of SuSE 8.1

A new SuSE is always interesting in the way that life-threatening sports are interesting. It might seem to be going along just fine, but in an instant disaster can strike.

So it was with the usual wariness that I put Suse 8.1 on a machine here. Nor was it just any old machine -- it was the one my wife uses. (Hey, you think I'm crazy enough to put it untested on my machine?)

I'm pleased to report that but for a couple of bumps, it went surprisingly well.

I just switched over to SuSE 8.0 Pro after using MDK for awhile. I enjoy it but have a minor question: on my current distro, for some reason, they do not include "locate"!! You have to install a utility and then run "locatedb", etc, etc. Do not understand the logic of that at all. Has that been changed on 8.1? Appreciate the article - especially about placing the home directory separately - did not know that. I am looking forward to trying the new version. Thanks!

I've always been a big SuSE fan. But finally, I've abondoned RH on the Dekstop for SuSE. I installed 8.1 without problems and have thus far encountered none. Me likey. ;D ;D

I have SUSE8, and I dont have any plans of upgrading. I am pleased with my distro and I love my Linux box. Logging into and working on my computer is a pleasant experience.

I've always liked SuSE, but 8.0 has been the best OS I've ever used. It's also the easiest OS I've ever used.

    8) SuSE 8)

I've gotta agree, SuSE 8.0 is just wonderful. Solid, stable, and easy to use. SuSE 8.0 feels like a real pro workstation. I love it.
