    Ok, something seemed to gone wrong when you installed fvwm-themes. I just tried it here and upon installation I changed my ~/.xinitrc file to read

    exec fvwm-themes-start

    I typed startx and with a left click in the root window I had a menu that has all the theme switching functions along with entries for all application that I ever installed on this box.

    Also the theme* directories in ~/.fvwm were automatically created after I first started X. Do you have a ~/.fvwm directory at all? If not create it and try again.

    You do have a fvwm version that's 2.4.8 or later, right?
    [/quote]

    Okay here is what I did (over again). I compiled (no errors) fvwm (ver 2.4.12, the latest stable). The I compiled and installed (with some error at the end of the make install) the themes.

    Is there a dependency that I missed?

    Re:FVWM :: Call me a moron, but...

    Here is what is in my Xclients.fvwm file

    Code:
    [aschott@system11 switchdesk]$ cat Xclients.fvwm
    #!/bin/bash
    # (c) 2001 Red Hat, Inc.

    exec /usr/local/bin/fvwm
    exec /usr/local/bin/fvwm-themes-start
    and here is the error in the make install.
    Code:
    /usr/local/bin/fvwm-themes-config --site --reset
    Warning: unknown entry [t0c0], ignoring...
    Incorrect line key value, not enough +'s
    make[2]: *** [install-data-local] Error 255
    make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/aschott/fvwm-themes-base-0.6.1'
    make[1]: *** [install-am] Error 2
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/aschott/fvwm-themes-base-0.6.1'
    make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
    And I checked what the terminal says when I log in via failsafe, and do a 'fvwm && fvwm-themes-start &', and it says something about too many +'s as well. Any ideas? I did compile (I am on a RH8 box btw) with gnome support into fvwm itself.

    No, no other dependencies. Apart from that error you mentioned I wouldn't know what could have gone wrong.

    Let's see do you have these binaries in /usr/local/bin?

    Code:
    /usr/local/bin/fvwm-themes-com      /usr/local/bin/fvwm-themes-script
    /usr/local/bin/fvwm-themes-config   /usr/local/bin/fvwm-themes-start
    /usr/local/bin/fvwm-themes-images   /usr/local/bin/fvwm-themes-xrdb
    /usr/local/bin/fvwm-themes-menuapp
    (Or else in $PREFIX/bin when you installed it somewhere else.)

    Before you installed the themes package did you setup a configuration? It shouldn't interfere but maybe try and move everything that's not fvwm-theme related out of ~/.fvwm and just leave the empty directory there when you call fvwm-theme-start at X startup.

    Delete the line exec /usr/local/bin/fvwm

    Re:FVWM :: Call me a moron, but...

    not good. I need to have in the exec .... fvwm line too, otherwise I dont get to do much of anything. Currently I have both lines in and am using it right now, however it looks pretty ugly (what I would like to change.

    I am lost here ...

    Re:FVWM :: Call me a moron, but...

    If you call both fvwm and fvwm-themes-start at X startup only fvwm will start. If nothing happens with only the line exec fvwm-themes-start in your xinitrc (or whatever it's RH equiv is) then fvwm-themes is not correctly installed. The error message you posted doesn't mean much to me. Sorry.

    Right now I'm running the cvs snapshot of fvwm from yesterday and fvwm-themes-base-0.6.1 they both compiled and installed without problem (Debian sarge). Maybe try that version of fvwm. You can get it here.

    Or you forget about the themes and start to setup your own .fvwm2rc file (that's a life time task once you started, though.) If you need something to begin with, my configuration files for fvwm are here. They are quite a mess and need a fair amount of fine tuning to work on systems other than my own but it's somthing to start from. I'm in the process of giving them a work-over to be easily portable but I might take some time to finish that project. If you don't like my setup you could ask Paul for his files.

    Sorry but I'm out of ideas on this one.

    Re:FVWM :: Call me a moron, but...

    Thanks, I do appreciate the help.

    I am currently waiting for the rpms to install, perhaps I'll have luck there. Other than that, Ill try the package on your website and see if the config helps out at all.

    If that dont work, cvs, and then give up
