    .rpm question

    Hi All,

I'm a realtive newcomer to Linux and this forum. I'm running RH 6.2 and due to current hardware limitations, can't really upgrade.

My problem is that many .rpm downloads fail to install due to old library or other files and failed dependencies. I've been to's errata section and tried to download "updates" for my system with limited success. Many of their "updates" even fail to install complaining of outdated files.

My question is, is there a web site that I can go to to get all the current updates required by my version of Linux which will allow it to successfully install programs? It even seems that my version of rpm (3.x) is oot of date, but I didn't see an update of that in the Red Hat errata site for RH 6.2.

I do understand that these must seem like really basic questions for anyone familiar with Linux, bu tI really could use some help here.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Dude, those are legit Q's my friend.

But thank god some geeks sat down and thought up a solution.

Go there and look up files and dependencies! Its what fixes the dep hell that all package users run into.

I rather use apt-get to get whatever updates, apt supports rpm packages updates for redhat on older version as well.
