I've played a bit with mwm, and I wonder, had The Open Group released Motif as Open Source back in the early '90s when Linux first came out, what would have happened?
MWM is rock solid, fast, and very nice. It is also very limited due to its closed source nature for so long. But had OSS people gotten it sooner, could it not have become a single standard GUI and API for Linux?
One wonders. There was a lot of potential there...
