From Sunday on, I will no longer be an intern. Now I am hired as a Network Operations Specialist (System Administrator really.) This means I get a pay increase, benefits and vacations. :P It also means I get to be on call once every 6 or 7 weeks...* Oh well...

"My computer keeps booting in safe mode." ???After the usual phone troubleshooting didn't help, he drove 25 miles tot he transfer station to see what was going on. Fist thing he notices: the telephone was sitting on the Shift key..... >
**ON Windows, booting up with the Shift key pressed causes the computer to go into Safe mode.
I wish I had known that about the shift key. I always sat there pressing F8 repeatedly and would have to reboot if I didn't hit it at the right time. And I don't know if I could tolerate being on call. If someone called me at 3 in the morning asking me to work, I'd tell them to piss off. It's probably a good thing I'm switching careers.
At 3 am I am in hibernation. You cant wake me until 8am. Dont try.

I know how that goes. I've had a few users drive me crazy already. Like the lady who would complain about her printer wrinkling and choking on her envelopes when she tried to print envelopes; When I went to check, she was forcing a six-inch wide envelope in a four-inch wide envelope tray. :Or the guy who would complain about being unable to print each morning until he hit the reset button on the printer. Except the printer has no reset button, only power...
I had to help this one lady who kept asking me if she had to "pop the cursor". After a while, I figured out she meant moving or clicking the cursor. The cursor was both the mouse pointer and the little carot thing in text boxes. I would say "now click on that button" and she would move the mouse over the button and say "do I pop the cursor now?".
OK, true story from support hell, but a looooong time ago...
I was the service manager for an IBM PC clone store back in the late 80's. We built XTs, ATs and 386's/486's (this was pre-pentium days, like I said, a loooong time). Anyway, we had a customer that was complaining to us on the phone that a program she used wouldn't work on the PC equipment we sold her. We spent a long time on the phone and eventually we asked her to send us a copy of the 5 1/4" floppy so that we could test it. (She lived about an hour from the store and couldn't get away during the day, so she agreed to sending us a copy.)
2 days later, in the mailbox was a 8x10" manila envelope. We opened it and inside we found...
2 pieces of paper with photocopies of a 5 1/4" floppy disk, one for each side.

That is truly awesome!!!
I once had a student at our school complain that her computer would not start. As it turns out, we had removed the computer from that work area the day before. When I went down to invistigate the problem, she was moving the mouse around on the desktop, saying "See, look, I told you. This computer sucks!"
I kindly asked her, "What computer?"
The cord to the mouse and the keyboard was not even plugged into anything and was coiled up, laying in front of her on the desktop.
