    Warcraft 3 and Wine

    Any wine gurus here? I've spent the last few hours trying to get warcraft 3 running with wine, and after a few setbacks have almost got it going. Now, when I run 'wine war3.exe -- -opengl' I get sound, but no video. Its at the initial menu screen, because thats the background music I can hear.

    The following is dumped to the console while it starts up;

    fixmele:CoCreateInstance no classfactory created for CLSID {cda42200-bd88-11d0-bd4e-00a0c911ce86}, hres is 0x80040154

    Anyone had this problem?

    I dug around the wine websites a bit, and it appears that the only wine port out there that will run WarCraft III, is WineX ( Go there and grab the free version and see if that helps. Regular Wine and Codeweavers' Wine do not run Warcraft III as of yet.

    Well according to from the codeweavers wine apps database regular wine will run warcraft III. It has a little howto on how the autor got it to work. My guess is you didn't move the movies, but I may be way off. take a look at the howto from that link and see if you missed anything on it, barring that I can't help sorry.

    yeah, I got this far by reading through that... according the howto and the comments, moving the movies directory or disabling the intro movie in the registry is supposed to fix it, but it didn't work for me.

    Make sure you get the very latest version of the cvs. Get transgaming cvs as it is designed for this, and warcraft 3 works pretty damn well with it. You need to get the 2.0 branch, if you look at the help files for WC3 on their site it tells you how. The latest version of the CVS should let you play the videos. I never could get it to run using the -opengl flag. I always just ran it with no flags. What I had to do to get it working though, was do a wine only install. As in I unmounted my windows partition, so it installs all its own dll's and doesn't depend on your windows install. I have had it working and it works really well, and thats how I did it. So I hope that helps you
