Ximian Gnome, RH7.3: File association not working

    HI,

Im running Gnome 1.4 (i think?) ximain gnome on RH7.3

I try swiching the icons for *.pdf's but the icon isn't mapped to any pdf files. how can I fix this?

(should I just hope that gnome2 does a better job?)

    hello,
While ncajun is ussually dead on with his advice i am not sure how it will help in this matter.

That is why I am suggesting you edit nautalis' mime type's and try that.

    hm.

Sorry. Maybe I misunderstood, but I assumed that when Blaqb0x said:
"I try switching the icons", that meant he had already edited the icon that is supposed to be used for pdf's, but then when he actually got a directory listing in Nautilus, the change didn't appear to take affect -- which would be fixed by a restart.

Maybe we should start from the beginning, then. Here's what I do:

    1. Launch the control center application in one of two ways. The quick way is to type "gnomecc" in an xterm and press 'enter'. The slow way: Go to your 'Programs' menu, then to 'Programs' (the one with the GNOME foot) ----> Settings ----> Sawfish Window Manager ----> Miscellaneous.

    2. Once the control center is launched, click on "File types and Programs" in the left pane.

    3. In the resulting right hand panel, scroll down until you see an entry for PDF, and click on it.

    4. When you click the entry, you'll see the current icon assigned to that file type appear in a small box, next to which is a button that says 'Change Icon'. Click that button!!!!

    5. Pick your icon from the resulting window, click ok, and voila!

    6. As far as I know, you still have to restart your window manager for this change to take affect. The quickest way I know of to do that is 'ctrl-alt-backspace'.

If this is still wrong, then I'm thoroughly confused.
