    Microsoft is at it again

    http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/ptech/0....ap/index.html

    From the article
"It's incredible to me that Microsoft would turn its back on Word 97 users," said Woody Leonhard, who has written books on Microsoft's Word and Office software. "They bought the package with full faith in Microsoft and its ability to protect them from this kind of exploit."

    What else would you expect?

This is the thing that people have to realise - Microsoft is in business to make money - and lots of it. Not to write patches for software that they sold almost 6 years ago. (Although it was probabloy the best version they've ever released) If you want patches, you're gonna have to pay - pay for a new version and probably upgrade your computer at the same time.

Same reason they don't support Win9x anymore. Come Jan. 1, 2003, NT4 will no longer be supported. Within 6 months after that, Exchange 5.5 is out the window too. I'd be surprised if Office 2000 isn't cut out by the end of next year.

What people need to understand is that this is what happens when you get into bed with bullshit proprietery file types and applications. One of the biggest strengths of Open Source is that stuff like this gets fixed and fixed fast in OSS.

M$ is out to make money, not software, which is why they push their crappy, god-awful junk on users and could give a damn about support.

I just hope that this pushes more people and businesses to StarOffice and OpenOffice.
