artsd taking up 83 MB of memory??

Any clues? I was using xmms at the time (which does not use artsd), could it be that artsd just buffered the sounds that should have been played? Just my theory... I couldnt imagine how it would otherwise get to 83 MB.

I think it does that but I didn't realise it would do it that much. What happened when you stopped xmms? Did you get a whole bunch of sounds?

I stopped xmms but at that moment my system was pretty much f*cked up. The word 'crawling' doesnt even begin to describe how slow it was. So I just killed -9 artsd as soon as possible.
Note that I just have 64 MB of RAM, so when I say artsd took 83 MB, you know thats bad
