AC 97 soundcard

Hey,
I have a onboard AC97 soundcard
I don't know much about linux yet
I think I have to don't shoot me if I'm wrong
recompile the kernel with the ac97 modules
now I really would like to get my sound working
good anyone give me a good article on my soundcard
or any help
cause I don't know what do do

now that we have pleasantries done with can ya let us know what distro you are using? like you said odd you probably do not need to recompile your kernel. many distros have config tool, Red Hat has sndconfig, makdrake has something like it, Suse has YaST, etc.

it does talk about compiling the kernel, but i am guessing if you type modprobe <module_name> the module (aka driver) it will load.
