Thread: Unable to connect to some sites

Unable to connect to some sites

I just noticed that, when using linux, I am unable to connect to sites like Nvidia.com or Openoffice.org. My browser just hangs in there, connecting, but it never loads the page. I have this behavior with Mozilla, Konqueror and Netscape. If I boot into Windows, I can get into the webpages just fine.
    Anyone finds this familiar?

that only happens to me when one of my DNS servers is down, i would check my /etc/resolv.conf file and make sure you have the right ip addresses.

Sites that use Flash tend to hang like that for me, even though I've got the darn plugin installed. :

It could also be a firewall issue - maybe you are not accepting any ip fragments?

Re:Unable to connect to some sites

I primarily use Galeon, but will use konq or netscape depending on my mood here and there. I have yet to have a problem going to nVIDIA's website.

However, since we are on the topic, where can I get the PSM module? Netscape and Konq are the only ones that seem to have it. Mozilla and Galeon dont. In case you have no clue what I mean. Goto an https site (like https://oss.sbc.com) and see if you can view it. If you cant, you get some goofy error. Tells me to grab a psm module and install it or contact the sysadmin. Well the sysadmin is stumped

But trickster -- check the DNS like you have been reccomended, and also make sure that you dont have any stuck cookies.

That PSM module is available for Mozilla (at least it's available as a separate Debian package - if you get your binaries direct from mozilla.org, it may be a case of choosing the correct tarball to download that includes it). Once that's in, it fixes Galeon too.

Have had similar problems with pages that require flash and sometimes java.
