    DSP-device fsk'd up ;-(

It's just me still trying to get some more toys to play nice together. :o

I finally got sounds to play fine from a .wav file on my HD

I finally got X-CD-Roast to write a CD-R (sorta ---it did crap part way through, but still progess.)

I finally (with help from here), got most of my /etc/fstab sorted out.

What I can't yet get going is to PLAY a CD (audio) or to play the one I dup'd with XCDRaost because it gives an error "Error accessing DSP-device - Busy with another program?"

I found /dev/dsp, /dev/dsp1 and a few others ... but no where in any of the O'Reilly horsey books I have even talks about DSP that I can find.

wtf, do I do now? How do I get to the next step with DSP?

What I can't yet get straight in the /etc/fstab (although it did work, but now doesn't) is when I try to mount fd0 or mount floppy I get:

    Code:
    [ken@localhost ken]$ mount fd0
    mount: can't find fd0 in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
    [ken@localhost ken]$ mount floppy
mount: can't find floppy in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
    yet here is /etc/fstab line
    Code:
    /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0
    /dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0
    /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy vfat auto,owner,kudzu 0 0

    Try typing
    Code:
    lsof |grep "/dev/dsp"
to see if it tells you what is holding on to the device(s).

As for the mount thing, you need to type "mount /dev/fd0" or "mount /mnt/floppy".

    Hope that helps.

    Code:
    [ken@localhost /]$ lsof |grep "/dev/dsp"
    bash: lsof: command not found

    [ken@localhost /]$ lsof |grep "/dev/dsp"
    bash: lsof: command not found

    [ken@localhost /]$ mount /mnt/floppy
mount: /dev/fd0 is not a valid block device

    [ken@localhost /]$ mount /dev/fd0
mount: /dev/fd0 is not a valid block device

how about ls -l /dev | grep cd ? also, is this still redhat 7.2 ? if you have not done so lately run a depmod -a as root in case modeules are not loading right.

    Code:
    [ken@localhost /]$ lsof |grep "/dev/dsp"

    [ken@localhost /]$ mount /dev/fd0
mount: /dev/fd0 is not a valid block device
    [/quote]

Ok, I'm a fool , that lsof thing should work as root. As far as the floppy mounting goes, at least it is finding the device file, mount point, and fstab entry. Could you post the result of "ls -l /dev/fd0"?

    Re:DSP-device fsk'd up ;-(

okay as root type modprobe floppy then see if you can access floppies.

the dsp looks liek it ahs the correct entries - and most importnatly it looks like you are using arts, a sound server.

try artsdsp program_name to see if sound will work with it, hopefully Ralinx will see this and help, he is very good with arts.
