    modem trouble post kernel recompile

well, its nice to have my x back...however, now ive got a problem with my modem. when i use kppp it dials and connects and then says there was an error, i forget what exactly...also, i sometimes use ppp-go from the console, and when I do that now, it dials and connects but then disconnects saying:
    Serial Connection Established
Couldn't set tty to PPP discipline:Invalid argument

anyone help me out on this one?

    Hello,
It's been awhile since I used PPP under Linux but maybe check that you compiled in support in your kernel for pppd and also some of the ppp modules like ppp_async, pppoe and the like. It sounds like pppd is working but some of the ppp modules are'nt complied or are not loaded. If I'm way off base on this apologies in advance.

You shouldn't need pppoe for straight dialup, but that async thing sounds plausible (maybe you plumped for synchronous instead of asynchronous during config?). Also it might be worthwhile checking to see if you have the ppp compression modules compiled in - although I think your dialup should still work fine without them (just maybe a bit slower).

any ideas? this is quite similar to the problem i had with kppp....i think i mighta left something out in my recompile, can i add it without having to recompile? or what should i try next?

What does that do? I have had similar problems (which is why I connect to the internet via...drum roll please...windoze!) and have been trying to figure them out as well.
