Thread: Teaching Credentials...

    Teaching Credentials...

I'm considering getting my teaching credentials. I have just got my BA in Philosophy over a year ago. The job I currently have is quite crappy and so is the pay. I've thought about applying as a teacher for private schools but I think I would very much benefit from getting the credentials. I am not sure what I could teach. Maybe I could teach computers or litereature. I heard that if one has a BA it is very easy to get one's credentials. I also heard that it wont take long to get credentials.

I'm in California any input from the teachers on this board would be appreciated...

First of all, I'm NOT a teacher so my info will be somewhat unauthenticative to you.

In California, one MUST pocess teaching credentials to be able to teach. The most common difficulties in getting teachers in CA is that there are not enough qualified people who have required teaching credentials.

I think it takes 9 months to get the cert in CA ( but I'm not so sure ) and it's even easier and shorter if you are a graduates.

    Moreno-

I'd say go for it. Being Mexican-American I would think provides you all sorts of opportunties in this fine state of ours.

Just make sure you don't vote Republican.

The only benefit that I have seen of being an Mexican-Amrican is that employers sometimes like the fact that I am bilingual. Other than that I don't see any other benefits.

Now why shouldn't I vote republican.

    Dear GMoreno,

To teach in a public school, you must be certified. Here is a website about credentials in California.

However, you may be able to teach in a private school with your BA although many schools prefer Masters. Do you have any teaching experience or do you feel the call to teach?

Here is a website that has private schools in the Bay Area. Look under National Websites for more info on private school teaching all over the US.

    Cheers,

    Mimi!

    Re:Teaching Credentials...

All my teaching experience was when I was in highschool. I had a class where we taught 3 graders pe.

I have been thinking of getting my credentials since some of my classmates are teaching and there is a lot of position available as teachers...

I am not sure how well I could teach with out credentials or training...

    BTW I do vote republican..
