Re:problem with X post kernel recompile

    Hello,
any chance you can post your /etc/X11/XFConfig-4 file.
also, did you recompile your nvidia module before restarting X ?

Re:problem with X post kernel recompile

Yep remember everytime you compile a new kernel, rebuild your Nvidia kernel module.

Re:problem with X post kernel recompile

i know, see, but before, i had a big problem with it not being able to compile...anyways, heres the important stuff from my config file:
    Section "Module"

    # This loads the DBE extension module.

Load "dbe" # Double buffer extension

    # This loads the miscellaneous extensions module, and disables
    # initialisation of the XFree86-DGA extension within that module.
    SubSection "extmod"
Option "omit xfree86-dga" # don't initialise the DGA extension
    EndSubSection

    # This loads the font modules
    Load "type1"
    Load "freetype"
    Load "speedo"

    # This loads the GLX module
    # Load "glx"

    # Graphics device section
    # ************************************************** ********************

    # Any number of graphics device sections may be present

    Section "Device"
    Identifier "VESA Framebuffer"
    Driver "fbdev"
    #VideoRam 4096
    # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
    EndSection

    # Screen sections
    # ************************************************** ********************

    # Any number of screen sections may be present. Each describes
    # the configuration of a single screen. A single specific screen section
    # may be specified from the X server command line with the "-screen"
    # option.
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen 1"
    Device "VESA Framebuffer"
    Monitor "My Monitor"

altho, i was able to compile my nvidia kernel drivers too! but, i cant access my files for that at the moment...in a later message!

Re:problem with X post kernel recompile

nope, still got the same error...i noticed it says the system is 2.2.19 while im actually running 2.4.5 now, should i get a new version and recompile xfree?

Re:problem with X post kernel recompile

    hello,
i am not sure if you remcomiled the nvidia driver or not... there is no need to upgrade xfree86.

  9. #9

Re:problem with X post kernel recompile

check if NVdriver is loaded, if not modprobe NVdriver, if you get an error it means you dont compiled nvidia driver after the kernel, or your nvidia driver failing

Re:problem with X post kernel recompile

nvidia i can't help you with. but for your default config not working, it's because you left Frame Buffer support out of the kernel.

it's in Console Drivers. Turn that on and the default config should work, until you get nvidia working.

    good luck
