What type of service do you want to offer? If you want to run an imap server and give friends webmail access, a good combo is exim, cyrus imap and squirrelmail.

If you want the whole package deal ( run mail server, web based mail, POP and IMAP, configure via web based tool ) and want to deal with only one instead of making many packages work together ( which is humangous task BTW ), look no further than CourierMTA.

It's GPL based and Debian has DEBs for it.

Also I just got the the domain esclavosoy.com. I don't have a clue about the MX stuff. What do I need to have so that I can setup my mail server...

Whoever is serving your DNS, need to have the MX record updated for you. As long as the MX ( Mail eXchange ) record is pointing to your IP address and your server is accepting connections, you should be ready to go.

I'm not sure if this is right but this is what I have:
    MX Added

The MX record has been created:
    Host: esclavosoy.com
    MX: esclavosoy.com.
    Preference: 5

    Is that right?

SMTP? You better be on top of how to control relaying. Those crackers will come sooner than you think trying to use your server for spamming. I know this from sour experience ...

What do you suggest regarding smtp? Can you have smtp in away that will prevent spammers from using it?

Don't relay anything, flat out ....

Let your users use webmail for remote stuff instead of POP. I believe Exim default to no-relay setting.
