Verizon is still evil. They overcharged my parents quite a lot and got caught disrupting service of people using other long distance companies in their local telco areas.

I would have figured that Verizon had to be better than SBC/Ameritech. These fucks are retarded phone guys. I have stories (well for the newcomers they are new stories) that go way back about the bumbling the retards over here have done.

Verizon seems to be a bit clueless when it comes to tech support. When I first got their DSL, the DSL modem they sent us was seemingly dead. After talking with them for over an hour, they decided to send out a replacement modem that was supposed to be delivered two days later. After a week, no modem. I call them up again and finally got them to see they forgot something and they got it to me the next day. They were also supposed to send pre-paid postage for the defective modem, but didn't.
So, now I have this extra modem. I played with it a bit. Learned of a firmware to make it into a bridge. Uploaded the firmware, and it works. To make sure none of the hardware was faulty, I uploaded the original firmware(not from the modem but from the same place I got the upgrade) and it still works.

Now, whenever I neet to take my server(web/ftp/IPMASQ) off line, I can just connect this puppy for minimal down time for the rest of the family.

Will Verizon ever ask for the modem back? I haven't a clue but it's been about two years.

You people are talking like Verizon is a local telco - e.g. a company that provides land line service... i did not know that.

I thought they were the new comapny that was formed when CellularOne and another wireless company merged. they are a wireless carrier around here and the biggest wireless provider in the U.S.

Verizon is my local telco. I don't know if this is normal accross the nation but a payphone call costs 50 cents because verizon is 'losing money cause people are using cell phones instead.' Last I heard they were one of the huge cell companies :.

Verizon is the only choice here.
50 cents is a rip for a local call.
No wonder people use the cell phones. ;D

We had GTE and then Verizon. If I'm not mistaken, Verizon bought GTE out.
