Xandros Announces Release Date for Xandros Desktop 1.0

Xandros, a leading developer of a cost effective, installation-friendly, complete Linux-based operating environment, announced today the release date for its first-generation Linux desktop product, Xandros Desktop 1.0.
The product, due to be released on September 30, 2002 and available for purchase within three weeks after that date, is built upon Linux kernel 2.4.19, XFree86 4.2, Debian 3.0, Corel LINUX 3.0, and enhanced KDE.

Why is Xandros considered a leading developer? Is it because of their Corel/Debian roots? I think that it is a bit of marketing deception, myself. I hate that the tech industry is so quick to pump their own egos up that they write and then believe their own press releases. That's one of the reasons why M$ is so damn quick to push their crap down our throats.

Never mind me, folks, I'm pissed off. Oh well, life goes on.

Xandros did contribute a number of patches to the KDE project and I'm certain that they have aided in getting the debian packageset up to date. But other than that I don't think they have remarked themselves in the community.

Question I have is when did Corel ever make it to 3.0???? I had 1.0 and it sucked big time. Then apparently there was a 1.1 and that was it. Where does this 3.0 come from?

They did release a 2.0 I think and the 3.0 was a development version.

Corel Linux Second Edition = Corel Linux 1.2. Thus, the actual version number was 1.2, but it was considered a quasi 2.0 release. I also understand that an official 2.0 was being worked on and nearing completion when Corel dumped Linux. Then, Xandros made enough modifications to the distro to warrent a 3.0 moniker.
