    Lucyjean, up for a kernel compile ?

    Hey Lucyjean,

    I seem to remember we talked about getting bttv and xawtv working with a recent kernel on your box.

    Well after messing with 2.4.19 last night, I discovered how to get bttv active. (Only to find out it gives me kerneloops)
    However this will work on any 2.4 kernel.

    Edit your /usr/src/linux/.config file, find the lines:
    # CONFIG_VIDEO_DEV is not set
    # CONFIG_VIDEO_BT848 is not set

    And change it to:
    CONFIG_VIDEO_DEV=m
    CONFIG_VIDEO_BT848=m

    (Sorry I havn't found where to activate CONF_VIDOE_BT848 in menuconfig, so this works for me(TM))
    run: make menuconfig
    goto: [tt]Charactor_devices --> i2c Support[/tt]
    Set an M for the following:
    [tt]i2c Support
    i2c Bit-banging
    i2c Device
    i2c /Proc[/tt]
    And make your kernel.
    You should now have a bttv.o, msp3400.o, tuner.o, videodev.o, i2c-core.o, i2c-dev.o, i2c-algot-bit.o, i2c-proc.o (and a few more modules I can't remember)
    compile and install xawtv, after you've booted with your new kernel, and use http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/mini/BTTV-4.html#ss4.6 for setting your /etc/modules.conf
    It might be needed, that you add the line:
    modprobe -k bttv to your /etc/rc.d/rc.local befor it will work flawless, but it shouldn't be needed.

    Anyway, with the 2.4.19 kernel, and these settings, xawtv will lockup completely, and give a kerneloops, if you boot with a kernel like this (without trying xawtv) and shutdown again, the machine will halt at sending all processes TERM signal where the msp3400 module will complain with:
    [tt]msp34xx tuner=1, radio=5
    msp3410 sleep thread
    msp34xx tuner=1, radio=5
    msp3410 sleep thread
    etc...[/tt]
    So I guess theres a bug in the 2.4.19 kernel.. Later tonight I might try and merge the msp3400 module from 2.4.18 and see if that will work with 2.4.19.

    Re:Lucyjean, up for a kernel compile ?

    Yup, it was en error in msp3400.c, since a diff between the one in 2.4.18 and the one in 2.4.19 didn't show much changed, I'm wondering where it could be.. Perhaps the fact, that it's running on a dual box...

    But taking the msp3400.c file from the 2.4.18 tree solves the problem temporerely...
