are there any beeps a happin'in ?
Okay all just got back from vacation and my linux box is hosed.
Here are the symptoms:
No video input to monitor (cable is not loose)
It appears that the hard drive does not spin up
Does this sound like my mo-board is fried? or the CPU???
Thanks

Troubleshooting continues. Just plugged it into my wife's winxp box. Removed her hd and put it in as primary.
Here is what happened.
Her system (Duron 900) (mine athalon 900) recognized the drive started booting to grub (GOOD THING) I selected kernel 2.4.18-5 and it returned this.
Boot 'RedHat Linux (2.4.18-5)'
root (HD0,0)
File type ext2fs, partiion 0x83
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.18-5 ro root=/dev/hda2
[linux-bzimage, setup=0x1400, size=0x101b1d]
initrd /initrd-2.4.18-5.img
[linux-initrd@0xf7c1000, 0x1e4a0 bytes]
uncompressing linux... Ok, booting the kernel
Then it just sits there. No beeps on my system when it boots the cpu fan is still running strong but I cannot get a display to enter bios to check the vitals. I am leaning towards video card and may swap it with wifes here in a bit?

check the PSU connector. The wires may have worn their way a little loose. Also reseat the CPU and RAM, and remove any parts in your computer except the RAM, CPU, HD, and VGA card. Then go piece by piece if it works. You may have a dead card.
Just guesses, and logical troubleshooting steps....
I know what the problem was. Everyone take a little look at your Moboard somewhere near the external ports (serial, usb etc) there will be a cluster of little brown chips all sodered (sp) to the board. Well guess what. THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE WHITE and or MELTED.
Diagnoses: $35.00 (motherboard fried)
Self Check: $0.00 (Chips melted)
New Moboard: $109.49 (Azza Board w/out nic (BUMMER))
Got it installed and plugged in and still no video (S4) Bummer had to revert to matrox millinum backup till payday.
Good news is up and running bad news is gotta cut the purse strings again and bum some cash for new video from wife. Good thing they are cheap now.. Anyone with a suggestion/???
