It's a visio clone and I only use it to draw flowcharts for my code, good for documentation. It's not as good as Visio, but it's free software and it handles the basics.

KDE 3 - Desktop and Window Manager.

StarOffice 6 - Killer office suite, easts M$ office for breakfast. Uses XML for its native data format, but can read and write M$ formats too.

Gimp - Free Photoshop type program.

ImageMagick- A suite of graphics tools and converters. Very, very useful.

Netscape 6.2 - A internet suite: standards compliant web browser, great e-mail client, and very usable WYSIWYG HTML editor.

Kate- Excellent text editor from KDE.

Konsole- Terminal emulator from KDE. Killer Terminal emulator.

Midnight Commander- A powerful console visual shell that can handle all your file management needs. Includes a great simple text editor, FTP client, and about a million useful things. A "must have" program.

GNUplot- A scientific data ploting program. Very powerful, if you need this kind of stuff.

The Bash Shell- good ol' Unix stuff at the command line. Very powerful.
