Cable descrambler - suggestions?

Naw, I wouldn't charge anyone ... but this definately sounds intriguing as a potential project that I could take on for one of my classes ... now, just how to justify it as an 'academic pursuit' vs. a 'hack' ;D

Hehe, well, do you have a tv tuner card? My assumptions are that since all he did was integrate it onto a daughtercard, I can just make a 'dongle' like doohiggie that connects to the CATV input and the actual CATV line plugs into it. That way I can ensure that if a signal of death comes down the wire, I can trap it before it touches my PC. My PC is like a baby of mine. Fuck with it and you are fucking with the Schott's >

And come to think of it -- I wonder if any of the cheap hacks work.... Theres a $5 RadioShack fix. A pot and a few caps supposedly do the trick. I am not really in the mood to dick with my $50 card.

Well, come xmas i'm planning on building a new box, and will have the ol' box now for scrap parts ... need to get a tuner card, but will mess with this RadioShack solution and do some 'testing' to see if it does the job ...

About two years ago or so, one of my oldest friends (and almost a neighbor) were googling around for some schematics to try out. We found one way that supposedly would work flawlessly or not at all depending on the hardware the CO uses. We figured that the project would cost like 15 bucks (including the nice RadioShack plastic project case), what would we be out. Picked up some perfboard the parts it called for, and decided to add a pass through option, so we could essentially turn the sucker off.

Cable -> doohiggie -> tv

It didnt really work too well. We got some extra stuff, but it shitted out most of the quality. So, porn was free, but all fuzzy and still ahd royal color ditsortion. But the dude that he lived above (the jackass who STILL wont share thoughts or even sell me a card) got a method that works. I just wish I could duplicate it.....
