    Changing permissions on folders only

I need to change the permissions on all subfolders in /home/user to 777, but not touch the permissions on any files. How can I do that? Is there a bash command for this?

    Re:Changing permissions on folders only

Perhaps it would be easier to do the following

    su root
    /usr/bin/konqueror

Then go to /home/user and highlight the folders you want to change. Right click and permissions and do the mod. Make sure that you DO NOT select subfolders at the bottom

(You can do them all at once Either Shift or Ctrl click.)

    Hope it helps

Thanks, but I have a ton of subfolders deeply nested. I don't think this will work ...

    find /home/user -type d -exec chmod 777 {} \;

that will chmod every file of the type d (directory) in /home/user

    Re:Changing permissions on folders only

The following will produce a listing of subdirectories:
    Code:
    find -type d
so this is one way of doing it (type this from within your /home/user directory):
    Code:
    for i in `find -type d`
    do
    chmod 777 $i
    done
Or something like that. I would be inclined to give it a dry run by changing the chmod line to read
    Code:
    echo "chmod 777 $i"
to make sure it does what you expect before doing it for real.

Btw, those things around the find command are back ticks, not apostrophes.

Edit: Bah! Ralinx's method is better.

    That did! Thanks!
