    reinstall lilo without reinstalling RH?

    hey,

i have redhat 7.3 installed and i installed the bootloader into the mbr instead of the 1st sector of the root partition like a dumb ass. i did the ol' fdisk /mbr. well ive been using a boot disk to get into redhat but wanna use xp's bootloader. i have the instructions on how to, but i need to get lilo in the proper place. is it as simple as editing lilo.conf? can anyone give me the specific details? thanks

    I'm getting sick of this....

    Step one: Read the PETs
    Step two: Search the forum
    Step three: GOOGLE !!!!!!!!!!!
Step four: Still no answer? Feel free to ask.

If you want to start removing LILO, from where its falsely placed at this moment, then lilo -u will do the trick.

    hey paul

assuming i would want lilo on the first sector of the root partiton would i just run /sbin/lilo and afterwards, edit lilo from /dev/hda to dev/hdc5? that PET is for installing lilo on the mbr.

Wouldn't that then be hda1 because I doubt that you boot of hdc5 as this is the 3 IDE controller.

well if its the 3rd disk controller and i have 2 cdroms and 2 hard drives and even a 3rd hard drive on a seperate pci disk controller i guess thats why its /dev/hdc5 rather than /dev/hda1. thats the way i had to set it up in disk druid.
i have /dev/hdc1 as my swap and /dev/hdc5 as redhat or /

the only reference i have to /dev/hda is my primary drive which has XP on it.
