Software jewel : dvdrip

I just started using this wonderful perl / gtk+ tool to turn my DVD movies into DiVX5 movies which I in return can watch on my laptop or take to a friends place who doesn't have a DVD player. Basically it turns ripping DVDs from a complicated task into an easy 6 step program even a child can learn to master in a matter of minutes.

1) DVD in drive
2) mount
3) start DVDrip
4) read TOC and select chapters to copy
5) transcode
6) enjoy

DVDrip even features calulation on the spot regarding bitrates, MP3 encoding of sound and automatic resizing. It's really dead easy !

BTW -- can it rip NTSC as well as your PAL format? Obviously I own mostly NTSC format DVD's.

it supports all known formats, NTSC, PAL, PAL60, etc. it can even set how many fps you want on your output file, 23.9 24 or 29.9 so you can custom fit it for your TV output (hehe)

did i mention that it also automaticly resizes and zooms the picture so you get those black borders removed... Without doing a damn thing... I LOVE THIS TOOL...

Okay -- this reminds me of something I was talking about with a buddy at work on firday. It seems that the USA could be its own planet. Our way is soo different than the rest of the civilized planet. Not to mention we are so cut off culturally (sans the internet of course).

Anyhow, 'tits' used like I just did is a sort of American way of going "cool', or 'sweet'.

And what is wrong with beer? But you may have a diet coke.

Doctor man says no more alcohol... he also say no more caffine... but there's not much of the good stuff in coke, and I'm really weird, I prefer diet coke and we danes have been cheated we only get new coke here... it sucks ass..
