pls ignore it - cable are fine, but network socket gone bad :-)
Just installed EnGarde Linux - this one is supposed to be secure platform for running linux applications.
In the instructions they say that during the intial installation phase I should take a crossover cable, connect 2 computers and perform installtion from the second computer usin web browser. I did that and it was fine...there is one thing that drives me pretty much nuts. They say after installation is completed, unplug your crossover cable and connect it with the normal cable to your network. This part doesn't work, the moment I connect it with normal cable to the network (switched) it stops pinging other copmputers, I cannot ping anything besides localhost and local ip addresses, the moment I plug the crossovercable back - I can ping the remote machine....
cables are fine.....
any ideas?

that sucks :-[
I had my fun with that -- we had a hub that was on the fritz and had half of the ports (24 port hub) were either fried or REAL flaky. Glad you figured it out
