This has to be stopped from happening. M$ seems to be under the impression that it can do anything it wants, regardless of whether it is moral or legal. The US DOJ may be contemptably balless in the matter, but I suspect that the rest of the world is not so blind to the dangers implicit in this plot.

I soooo hope you are right. Too many countries have simply slapped M$ on the wrist. We (the USA) have done worse, let tehm walk and gave them all a candy bar for bothering them. But there are non-linux fans that realize that this just CAN'T fly. As my anti-UNIX boss said -- if you thought that M$ was hated now, just watch them try to pull this off. More people are going to realize the sheer arrogance and monpolistic attitude that M$ has and will continue to have.

I would think that even Joe Average would be opposed to this. I mean, this would literally mean that you could only buy M$ approved hardware from M$ approved venders and only have M$ approved upgrades perfomed by M$ approved techs.
On the sofware side, shareware would be crushed out of existance as most shareware developers could not afford the cost of being certified. Same with much GPL software. Of course, the people doing the certifing would be controlled (puppets) of M$ anyway, so any competting product would automatically fail to meet the certification.
Want to build your own computer at home? Forget it, you are not certified and you home made computer is therefore illegal. Want to just keep you old computer and continue using you existing software? Well, not on the internet. The M$ approved internet will not let an illegal box connect to it.
Far fetched? Science Fiction? paranoid delusion?
No. Just M$ business as usual. If they pull this off, there will be nothing but M$ in ten years.
Think about it.

Re:Palladium -- M$ At its evilest.
cga, if I understand this correctly, we are not forbidden from running the unapproved software. It just disallows it by default, but we can reenable it. But how many people are going to not know how to do this? Bet my grandma wont. Bet she wont even ask, and assume that the program is a virus or something in that sort. This is bad -- but hopefully the media doesnt suck M$'s dick and go all goo-goo-ga-ga over this. I hope they get like us and get PISSED OFF LIKE ALL FUCK!!
