What, you think there isn't anybody like that in the windows community?
After reading comments on slashdot, newsforge, and kuro5hin I've come to the realization that most (at least a nice chunk) in the Linux community are biggots with 'my way or the highway' type attitudes.
I've read comments from "This is the dumbest article I have ever read" to "What the hell, this site sucks." Are these people just bad apples or a good representation of our growing community?
What do you think?

how can 15 million penguins be 31137157 ?
i mean, theres countries that dont have that many people!
BUT, we can take pride in being among the first
1.5% of the world to be independant of the evil empire.
As for the distro wars, thats all in fun. when i used mandy,
i bitched out deb. now i use deb, i bitch out mandy.
maybe tomorrow i load up solaris or FreeBSD and bitch out
other distros. but no harm done, its all *nix.![]()
i think sadly yes. my idea from the linux community is that most users are wanna be hardcore hackers who live by the motto rtfm and say it so much that its lost meaning. its hard to come across good places to find help these days because everybodies nose is so high. LJR and an irc chat room or two are the only places i now go for help simply because they seem like the only places people know what they are talking about and are nice about it/happy to help.but its a shame that the community has been presented to me like that, maybe other people have better experiences, but when i join a room called #linuxhelp or something like that. well telling me RTFM and no more spoon feeding gets aggitating. :-\
Maybe if you stopped trying to replace people with porn, you'd get better feedback, BurntAsh![]()

Thats a good point, but at the same token does windows really have a community or is it just a myrid of users?
I'll take myriad of users for $500, Bob.
Anytime you have a room full of geeks youre going to have a room full of sarcasm, ego, and plenty of bravado. I dont think you can justly label the Linux Community as such because the Geek Community as a whole displays those same arrogant "I-am-right-screw-your-opinion" attitudes.
I will have to applaud the Linux community based on the fact that we really didnt hear terms such as "community", and "user groups" until Linux's popularity increased around 1996. We all know these groups existed, but only in the G.U. "geek underground".
Unfortunately, in a basket of red apples you normally see the green ones first. So therefore you have your Slashdotters, your LNOs, and your Feztaas.
disclaimer: Not all Slashdotters, LNOs are like that. :P
I think that the younger more intelligent kids get it in their head that they know more than the next person -- so screw him! There are more kids that have piss attitudes that are younger than my beard. Thats bad. Some 17 Y.O. that tells me off has got a problem. They think that it makes them cool.
Thats my opinion -- and like most things, its value is its weight in gold....(it doesnt weigh anything -- its photons dammit..)
I think people OUTSIDE of the community see the *unix users as leetist.
No matter what community your a part of there will always be those people that are not there to HELP others but there just to brag about how much they know, and never offer help to anyone other than saying RTFM.
Those people do not help any comminuty they just hurt it, i know when i first started using linux ( arround the time when LNO popped up ) i was asking questions and more than once i got 1 four letter word as a response "RTFM" it turned me off thats for sure. If i was a weeker person i would not have tried as hard to learn about linux.
anyway thanks for listening ...
