Apache Restrictions

I was thumbing through the httpd.conf looking for a template for restricting access on certian folders (so a popup of user/password would show before opening the directory). How can I do this?

this tutorial does it with .htaccess files, which are easier to modify later (in my opinion). If you don't want to use .htaccess files, it's pretty much the same, but you put what you had in the .htaccess file into your httpd.conf file.
