    DNS error: rndc

I am getting an error in DNS and it is driving me crazy. I am reletively new to Linux and just cannot get it. The error happens when I try to restart DNS, the error is:

Stopping named: rndc: connect failed: connection refused

Please let me know what additional information you need to help me out. Thank you in advance.

I'm going to stick my neck out here. I don't know much about rndc, but I found some links out there about how to configure it and someone who found a solution to the problem.

Did you need setup rndc or did you get this problem when youn installed BIND straight out of the box?

    Re: rndc error

This surfaced for me on a new Fedora FC2 install, and is a known bug.

See, bug #124992. Essentially, in FC2 BIND is configured to look for config files in /var/named/chroot/etc, but the files created there are empty.

The actual files are in /etc

Copying them over seems to work, pending resolution of the bad install on caching-nameserver-7.2-12.

This is new in FC2. It was not present in RH9, or in FC1

A little googling shows that variants of this have been in other distributions.

I got a DNS trouble same to you, with FC1  , so when I put

    named.conf in /var/named/chroot/etc/,

Don't forget specify the path in the named.conf like this (FC1):

    options { directory = "/var/named/";};

    and put in /var/named/chroot/var/named/,

then restart the named service by this command:

    serviced named restart

My DNS runs ok still now

    Good luck !
