Black screen of death and KDE

??? - I usually use WindowMaker but occassionally go into KDE. Lately I notice that every 2-3 times I use KDE, upon exiting, the screen goes black and will not do anything. Cannot get into the log in screen, etc. Have to unplug the computer and start all over again. Anyone else have this problem or have a suggestion? It only occurs with KDE - none of the other wm's. Thanks!

humm - does a ctrl +alt + bkspc get anything? how about ctrl +alt + F1 - the xserver locking up i have seen, but not to the point where a reboot was needed.

No ctrl+alt+bkspc gets nothing. Did not try ctrl+alt+F1 - hit every other key though, F1, esc, even ctrl+alt+del - nothing happens. Have to pull plug and start all over again. Oh, forgot to mention - using MDK 8.2.
