Ok, but what can I do with it? Do I just buy a receiver and I'm good to go? Do I need to sign up for service?

imho you need to signup, and theyll give you a smart card
for your receiver, on the side of the box it says
"call to suscribe 1-800-directv"

Dude, without the receiver, its useless. You can get a dual lnb at walmart for 30 bucks. Thats way overpriced without a receiver. And with a dual lnb, you would need two receivers to take advantage of it. Not a good deal dude.

ok, i believe you, so will trade for anything worth
$30 or so. fox ex, an old video card 16mB or above,
any hard drive that works 6gB or above, 10 kg of Plutonium 239,
an optical mouse, a mobo that supports amd k6-2 500mhz cpu,
atx power supply 250 watts or ^ , or other hardware.
(to my friends at echelon and carnivore:
j/k about the PL239.) The DTV box says $99 on it. ill bet it
(the DTV, not the box) can be used in some cool xperiments . 8)

Not really. You could probably fashion some sort of parabolic antenna type listening device from the antenna. To really play around some you would need the actual reciever and a card. There are some canadian sites out there with very interesting information about that sort of thing.
