As promised, I set up the new PHP/mySQL version of YaBB and plan to switch to it soon. Find it here:
http://www.linuxjunior.org/YaBB/index.php
Please help me to test it out. Check out all the features, there are some new ones, like posting a poll. Have your username and password handy, you'll have to log in again since it uses different cookies. Don't worry about messing up the database, I'll reload it before we go live. Post any garbage you want. Two features that I added to the existing version won't work yet: custom avatar uploads (your existing one will work, just won't be able to change it) and the turning off the censorship. I will add these features later.
Please add to this thread any problems, bugs you come across. Also let me know if you see any speed improvements.

The question is if the new version is any improvement over the old one besides the technology it uses? Is it worth spending a bunch of time on tweaking and debugging?
is it just me or did that thing take longer then the cgi version to load?
Actually, I don't notice any significant difference. That's why I'm hesitating to switch over.
It was lagging a little last night, but now its about the same as it is here...surprisingly enough.......
I thought that PHP kicked the llama's ass when compared to CGI
PHP/SQL feels more.. responsive than the cgi one.
The lag when changing pages has gone to never never land, which I love !
I would say, switch now, and lets tweak the little things afterwards.
Another thing is that I think the SQL version will scale better, which probably will be needed with all the new members we are getting from LNO.
I don't think that would be a good idea. If we are going to switch, lets find the bugs first.I would say, switch now, and lets tweak the little things afterwards.
i didnt notice any change in speed :-/
cloverm it's up to you which ever one is easier to administer is the one i say we go with.
