Here in the UK it is a little different. Ciggies are heavily taxed, a packet of 20 costs nearly Ģ5, most of which is tax. The tax the Government gets from smokers, each year, is considerably more than it costs to run the National Health Service.Here in Sweden (and most of Europe I think) everyone has got a health insurance, we donīt have to pay it ourselves*, so those bloody smokers cost every taxpayer a lot of money.
It has been discussed whether they should pay extra if they need treatment for something caused by smoking. I think they should.
*We pay through taxes though.
So here non smokers aught to be greatfull that so many people smoke, it paves the way to their free health care.
