    Cats and Dogs

Why dont cats range in size like dogs do?

There are BIG dogs, Bull Mastif, and there are small dogs chiwawa, and everything in between.

Why dont cats range is size like that? I'm not saying that cats should be as big as dogs but why are they all the same size, give or take a couple of pounds?

Must've been the way the first cat owner decided to breed them.

    Re: Cats and Dogs

I think its because the cat originated from the african falbcat (dont know how its called in english) .. this cat was bigger than the normal house cats but not as big as a dog, and the wolfe itself where the dog originated was much bigger than the first cat .. so its easier to get animals the same size or a little bigger with crossing than to get an animal bigger who wasnt big from nature..

PS: ... its just a quick guess so , it could be wrong.. any others here who can answer this ?

My guess is that dogs have been bred for different tasks. Terriers for going down rabbit holes, pitbulls for fighting, dobermans for being attack dogs (?) so different sizes for different tasks, where as cats (who have never been "working" animals) have been bred to sit on your lap, catch rodents, look good, and poo in corners.

Look at it objectively- with the attitude most cats have, would you really WANT a 90 lb. cat wandering around your house???
Logistically, think of the kitty litter bill!!!

i didnt think of it like that, i cant stand my cant is it is in glad it could hide under the bed and not be seen, i dont think a 90 pound cat will fit under the bed. ???

as for the litter i guess you could have a sand box outside ?
