Oh yeah, even if Debian is great, you should not overlook the BSD's. They are very cool too.
Hey cga,
I still got the 'Drake on here yet. I am now triple booting with windoze (work made me re-install it for CAD) 'Drake 8.0 and now Debian!
I figured it is time to really learn Linux, and I wanted to see the goodness of apt.

Debian is nice. It can be a challenge to get working the first time, but once you do, it's bliss. I love apt-get and would still use it if I could.
I must agree with GnuVince though. BSD rocks.
Just for the record, if you want to try a BSD on your desktop, I suggest FreeBSD, because it has the most apps, has more hardware support for the x86 and is generally speaking easier to use. You can try NetBSD and OpenBSD too if you want: Ashcrow is soo l33t that he uses OpenBSD on his main system(I would probably consider him more l33t if he had NetBSD).
I will get around to the BSD's one day. I still have about 7gigs left. But first I have to get Debian totally up and running. Got my printer setup. Only sound to go!
