Thread: BAN MICROSOFT!!!!!!!

You have a Netware server at home! That's cool!
I was using IntraNetware 4.11 with Novell's BorderManager 3.5 Enterprise as my router/NAT/Firewall and had @home going through the Netware server. Worked great though it had to use a static ip address.

@home got on my back about switching to dynamic, so I got a Linksys router and since I no longer needed BorderManager (and we were upgrading at work) I decided to redo the server and install Netware 5.1. One day I'll try to setup the webserver that comes with NW5.1.

m$ is just a very successful company who is ruling the economy and therefore trying to get political powers .. and thats the main reason that it is still so strong because in the free economy you cant 'legaly' rule for so long.. you have to play a few bad tricks to get hostile companys to drop out of market.

I kinda have to wonder whether this benefits the consumer much, since companies like Microsoft are continually destroying their competition and at the same time, stifling innovation in the programming industry (well, the desktop OS industry anyhow). Besides, what will keep costs down if there are no competing OSes out there on the market for PCs? (and Linux doesn't really count, because it's free, as in apple juice)

Amen! A Win2k friend of mine told me that MS only makes good hardware. Turns out they outsource all their hardware (mice, keyboards,...) and put their name on it :

It's like gurilla warfare, only it's GNU so therefore it must become GNUrilla warfare ! and we will become the GNUrilla !
    Oh...hehe.

I was thinking more along the lines of creating a GNU cult, where most of the members were only permitted to use free (non-commercial, but not necessarily with a free license) software, and were encouraged to spend almost all of their free time studying history, economics, literature, programming, *nix, etc., instead of watching tv, downloading 5 bazillion worthless mp3's, watching cheap porn, warezing windows software, sleeping around with dozens of people and collecting an equally large number of venereal diseases, boozing, hitting the crack pipe, etc., etc..

In my ideal cult, people would actually be able to think for themselves, and be capable of making intelligent decisions (naturally, making this a reality will be damned near impossible) in regards to their family, friends, politics, and their economic well-being.

If only it were possible to create a society of people who were dedicated to learning, researching, and archiving things so that they could help the less fortunate out when they get themselves into trouble...*sigh*

Of course, this would never become a reality because humans are generally incapable of doing anything for anyone except themselves (I guess we really are nothing more than really intelligent animals).

Hell, I think I'm already a member of that cult. I don't use much EVIL nonfree software, I don't watch much TV besides Discovery since it's mostly dumbminded reality shows which are shown on the box anyways. I study all the time - I like UN*X, I don't pirate music I don't watch much porn, might as well be honest, I like pretty girls as much as the next guy, but I pref. girls with the brains attached... I hate Windows, so but I would never steal it. I've only slept with one person my entire life, I rarely drink and I never do drugs.....

    Hey Hamond.... I'm game...

Hail thee, Richard Stallman... Saint Emacsus - bringer of the truth, I bid thee welcome to my house of prayer !

I told you I was honest... I do watch porn every once in a while, in reality it's hard to escape porn when you have an internet connection... but I'm not even remotely at GnuVince's state, which mild put mighty be harmful for future relationship with real flesh and blood females....
And hey, the human body is a wonderful piece of artwork, why should we not be allowed to enjoy it ?

Ah, well, I don't think I know too many people who can say that...

There was one person who I would have slept with, but when I found out that she had previously been very sexually active and had managed to get herself herpes and AIDS, I kinda got squeamish (that and the fact that she had knowingly given that crap to 7 other guys kinda worried me). The whole thing has left a rather depressing mark on me...how often do you come across the most wonderful, intelligent, and beautiful girl in the world, only to find out that she's been hanging out with, well, the wrong sorts of people?

Ah well, perhaps it's for the best that I didn't get too attached to her... people like me don't do too well in relationships (I kinda expect my women to have things like morals and common sense, and because those are rather uncommon traits for women (or men) to have in this day and age, I'll probably end up dying alone and unremembered (and, if I don't get cloned, probably without children!)).

At any rate, welcome to the cult!

I wonder if there are any others out there like us, doomed to live out their romantic lives in perpetual misery...ah well. Without relationships on the mind, I suppose we can spend more of our time on academic pursuits

I personally never understood what is so great about having a lot of sex with a lot of people, just for the sack of having it.... I mean sex is great - I'm all for it, but only with a person I love.
And yes Hamond, we will probably die alone and without children - unloved, unwanted....
