nVIDIA relaeases the nForce drivers for GNU/Linux

For those out there that care /own a nForce mainboard, the drivers have been released for GNU/Linux. Some open source (i810 stuff) and the rest is the standard binaries that nVIDIA does with the graphics board line

I'm still waiting for free drivers. Will they ever exist...?

    Very unlikely.

They are free beer, that's enough IMO.

What would you do if you had full access to their driver? Do you do anything special with the emu10k1 drivers? Or any GPL'ed driver in the kernel tree?

The best thing anybody can do with it in the opensourced community is support those who works on them. May be I can do some OpenGL or 3D stuff.. I don't know. I'm learning C ATM so it might as well be useful in the future. Hardware vendors being anal about releasing their hardware specification is the most major problem in the hardware support area. There are those who are willing to write codes for them but under GPL and I can certainly understand the business reason not to give their rivals through those specs. BUT they can find a way to release hardware specs and try to keep up with it at least if they wanted to. If they want my money for it, then they better be work harder.

Free Beer is good enough for most of the people and so is Windows. So what?? I love my freedom and I will preserver it anyway I can even if it means that it will cost me a little more.

Maybe the whole GNU/Linux (well, not GNU, but pretty much what isn't GNU) switch to a vim-like license: it's basically like the GPL, but if you want to use that code in a commercial product and not give the code away, you must get approbation of the authors. Maybe buisnesses would be more intereste by this type of license.
